Treating Diabetic Cognitive Dysfunction Based on Flora-Brain-Gut Axis and Theory of "Middle Energizer Should be Treated When Upper and Lower Energizer Impairment"

Abstract:The concept of "middle energizer should be treated when upper and lower energizer impairment" originatesfromYETianshi'sLin Zheng Zhi Nan YiAn(CaseRecords asaGuide to ClinicalPractice),which suggests that when boththeupper and lower energizer exhibit symptoms orlesionsof deficiency,thetreatment focus should be on the middle energizer(spleen and stomach).Chinese medicine posits that dysfunction of the spleen and stomach in the middle energizer leads to insuficient kidney essence,malnourishment of thebrain marrow,and obstructionof brain chanels byphlegmand blood stasis,resulting in diabetic cognitive dysfunction.Modernmedicine suggests that intestinalfloraimbalanceiscloselyrelatedtodiabeticcognitivedysfunction,withsuch imbalances inducingcognitive dysfunctionand intestinaldysfunctionsimilarto thestateof "upperandlower energizerimpairment".This studyexplores the pathogenesis of diabeticcognitive dysfunction basedon the "flora-brain-gutaxis",integrating Chinese medicine clasics,medication experience andrelated experimental research.Itproposes that treating diabeticcognitive dysfunction byaddressing spleenand stomachdeficiencyand impairmentcanprovidenew insights for the integrated treatment of this condition by combining Chinese and western medicine.
