Study on the Effect of Different Pulp on Air Permeability of Paper

Abstract:Inordertoinvestigatethereasonandmechanismforthediferenceinairpermeabiltybetweenhemppaperand woodpaper,different hempfiberrawmaterials (flaxpulpandhank pulp)andwoodfiberrawmaterials (hardwood pulpandsoftwood pulp) were used to prepare unfilled and filled with 10% calcium carbonate paper,respectively. Subsequently,the mechanism of the differenceinairpermeabilityperformancewereexploredaccordingtotheanalysisofthechangesintemorphologyofthefibersbeforeand afterbeating,thedistributionoftheporestructuresandsurface morphologyofthepaper,incombinationwiththeairpermeability and bulkinessof thefinished paper.Theresultsshowedthat hemppulppaper exhibited superiorairpermeabilitycomparedto wood pulppaper.Underbothunfilldandfilledwithcalciumcarbonateconditions,flaxpulppaperwithsuperiorairpermeabilityexhibited values of 1.04 and 3.8 6μm/(Pa⋅s) ,significantly higher than that of hardwood pulp paper at O.379 and 1.10μm/(Pa⋅s) .Furthermore,the mainreasonwhytheairpermeabilityofhemppaperWasbeterwasthatthelooserfiber network structureof hemppaper. Whilethefibrilationdegreeofhmpfiberwaslowertanthatofwoodfiberinthebeatingproess,resultinginthelowerinterweaving compactnesslevelof hempfiber,which mightbetherotcauseofthediferenceinairpermeabilitybetweenhemp paperand wood paper.
