Abstract: Cultivating outstanding medical professionals who are well-versed in both medicine and humanities and possess both professional skilsand ethical integrity is the goaland responsibility of medical colleges and universities.In the teaching of medical English courses,selecting appropriate English literary or film works according to the teaching needs,and using the two tools of narrative medicine—close reading and reflective output training—to enhance medical students’narrative abilities is an efficient way to strengthen their professional ethics and cultivate their medical humanities literacy.Based on narrative medicine,this paper clarifies the internal logic between the improvement of narrative competence and ideological and political education, redefines the teaching mode and target system of medical English courses,sets the goals for improving narrative competence and ideological and political education elements through textbook analysis,and designs the teaching process with the main line of“close reading-interactive discussion-reflective output”,exploring the practical path of integrating narrative medicine into medical English clasroom teaching. It is hoped that this paper willprovide new ideas for the reform of medical English teaching and ofer practical references for the integration of medicine and humanities in classroom teaching modes.
