Effect of Calcium Chloride on Seed Germination Characteristics of Chinese Kale Under NaCl Stress

AbstractIntispapernsealeR2susedstetstatelndtepetridshgeiatiometodasdoptedtoiatee effects of exogenous CaCl2 solutions with diferentconcentrationsonthe seed germinationof Chinese kale under28O mmol/LNaCl stres.The resultsshowedtatcomparedwithteblankcontrolgroup(CK1),8Ommol/LNaClstressignifcantlyinbitedseedgerinatioeger minationpotential,germinationrate,germinationindex,vigorindex,andseedlingfresh weightofsedsunderthisstresswere 54.5% , 68. 3% ,10.89,1.01,and 0.09g in sequence. Under NaCl stress, the alleviating effect of exogenous CaCl2 presented a trend of first increasing and then decreasing. Among alltreatments, the 16 mmol/L CaCl2 treatment had the best effect: its germination potential (57.8% ),germination rate (64.5%) ,germination index (10.88),and seedling fresh weight (0.13g) )were all slightly higher than those of control group CK2,and the vigor index was significantly improved. However,when the concentration of CaCl2 increased to 28mmol/L ,all indicators ( 19.5% , 28.9% ,4.36,and O.26 respectively)weresignificantly lower than those of CK2,indicating that high-concentration CaCl2 instead aggravated the inhibitory effect of salt damage.In conclusion, CaCl2 at an appropriate concentration ( 16mmol/L )can alleviate NaCl stress and promote seed germination,while CaCl2 at concentrations that are too high or too low has no alleviating effect and may even intensify the damage.
