Treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma based on the theory of water stagnation

[Abstract]Primaryopenangle glaucoma（POAG）isdirectlycausedbyelevatedintraoularpressure（OP）resultingfromtrabecular meshworkobstructionandabnormalaqueoushumormetabolism.In Chinesemedicine，thestagnationofaqueoushumoris categorizeda"watersagtion，chisoelyelatedtfutioofteungspleenidneyndliverhetis canbesummarizedasfolows：pathogenicinvasionleading tolungstagnationandobstructionofthe"mysteriousmansion（Xuanfu）"; lossofsplenictransportationcausingupwardmovementofwater-dampness;losofkidneyqitransformationresultinginimpaired governanceofwater;lossoflivergovemanceoffreeflowofqicausingbloodstasisndwaterretentionAccordingtothedierent mechanismsunderlyingwaterstagnation，andbasedontheChinesemedicinetheoriesofwaterregulationbythelung，water restraintbythespleen，watergoverancebytheidneyandgoveranceofthfreflowofqibytheliver，theproposedreatent principlesare：difusingthelunganddrainingwaterretention，strengtheningthesplenandfacliatingwatertransforation tonifyingthekidneyandnourishingtheorigin，and promoting bloodcirculationandwater metabolism.Theseappoachesaimto facilitatetheutflowofaqueoushumorresolvewaterstagnation，restoretheflowofqiandimprovebloodcirculation，thereby lowering the IOP and alleviating optic nerve damage in POAG.
