Research on the Network Planning of Rail Transit in the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration

Abstract: [Purposes] The existing intercity rail network in the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration lacks suffcient coverage and undertakes excessve functions of the main railway network,resulting in inadequate support for the urban agglomeration.Therefore,it is necessary to study the rail transit network within the region.[Methods] Starting from the current demand of the urban agglomeration,this paper analyzes the scale and characteristics of the present demand and forecasts the future demand for the target year.Based on the spatial structure,the high-speed rail network and the intercityrail network are integrated to form a fundamental network framework.Demand-oriented project planning is adopted to construct the rail transit network for the urbanagglomeration.[Findings] The final plan forms a high-speed railway network with a general patternof "three horizontal,three vertical,and four radial lines"andan intercity railway network layout characterized bya "cross,one ring,and multiple connections".Evaluation shows that the planned network achieves 100% coverage of cities and 93.4% coverage of districts and counties in the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration, representing increases of 3.3% and 34.0% respectively compared to the current situation.A "123 travel circle" has essentially been formed within the urban agglomeration.[Conclusions] The planned network can meet transportation demands and support regional development.
