Research on the Restoration of Five Lost Sculptures at the Longmen Grottoes

Abstract：This paperintroduces fivesculptures that disappeared fromtheLongmen Grotoes and were laterreturned by differentmeans，suchastherecoveryoftheobjectitself，areturninthefoofadigitalmodel，andbeingrediscoveredurnga conservationproject.The investigationpresentsacomparativestudyofthestatues that wasconductedusing various techniques， includingresearchonthetemplesiconographicalcharacteristics，sizeandengravingarks;esearchonistoricalrecordsnda chaeological studies，and in-situcomparison withsolid3Dmodels.Thecombinedresultsofthese analyses helptoconfimthat thefivelostsculpturesdidindeedoncebelong intheLongmen Grotoes.Inadition，theholistic methodologyutilizedinthisresearchprovidesanew technicalapproach forexploringandconfirming theoriginallocations ofculturalrelics thathave bendisplaced from cave ，and for rendering 3D models of these important historical objects.
