Abstract:Cai Chongda’s Fateisa philosophical novel that delves intoexistential inquiryinterrogating themesof lifeand human ontology through a profound theoretical lens. The narative, structured around the lived experience of Cai Hou Lou—a nonagenarianprotagonist—articulates reflections on mortality thatparalel Heidegger's existential framework of "being-toward-death.”Heideggerian philosophy posits deathasthe mostauthentic (inteligent),non-relational possibility of Dasein(human being-in-the-world),through which existential totalityisactualized.Thisontological premisemaintains death as ana priori structure co-constitutiveof human existence. In Fate,Cai materializes the metaphysical conceptof death's omnipresence through ritualized textualrepresentations offuneral practices, therebysubverting modernity's sanitized dissociation from mortality.Significantly, the authorconfigures Heidegger'sexistential“anxiety”(Angst)as acatalyst forauthenticity into an Eastern epistemological paradigm termed“tuber ethos”—asyncretism philosophy thatdismantles transcendental hierarchies through humanistic prioritizationof immanent agency.Bydeconstructing Western gerontologyand asserting individual sovereignty over destiny,Cai proposes an anthologized worldview that exhorts contemporary subjects to confront definite, resist existential atrophy, and enact meaning through intentional being.
