Abstract:Puppet drama and Zhuma drama are twoof the oldest dramas in Chinese drama art.Their formation and origin are closely related to ancient games.Puppet and bamboo horse games developed into independent drama forms in the Tang Dynasty and the Yuan and Ming Dynasties respectively. Their evolution from games to dramas is recorded in ancient books, but there is very litle visual evidence. The murals ofchildren's gamesin Cave 3l and Cave9of the Mogao Caves reflect the intermediateforms ofthe evolutionof these two typesof shows, and together withcontemporary literature, theyconfirm the phenomenonof the dramatizationof games, which is animportant cluefor studying the relationship between games and the origin of early dramas.
