Correlation between Lodging Resistance Characteristics and Yield in Different Spring Wheat Stems

Abstract:To investigate the lodging resistance characteristics and yield differences among diffrent spring wheat lines,eight newly developed lines were used as experimental materials,with‘Ningchun 4’serving as the control.Stem morphological traits,mechanical strength,lodging resistance index,and yield -related parameters were measured and analyzed to clarify the relationship between lodging resistance and yield performance in spring wheat.The results showed that all eight lines exhibited lodging resistance indices higher than that ofthe control, ‘Ningchun 4’. Among them,lines 15M8887 and 15MJ424 demonstrated strong lodging resistance and high yield performance,whereas DN-646 and SM-17 showed weak lodging resistance and were prone to lodging under fieldconditions,with moderate yield performance.Corelation analysis revealed that yield was significantly positivelycorelatedwiththe thickness of the basal second internodeandoverallstemstrength,and showedahighly significant positive correlation with the breaking force and lodging resistance index of the basal second internode. In contrast,a significant negative correlation was observed between yield and the length ofthe basal second internode.Inaddition toselecting for high -yield potential,targeting traits such as moderate plant height,short and thick basal second internodes,and high stem mechanical strength is an effective strategy for improving wheat productivity and economic returns.
