Effects of Different Calcium Preparations and Application Frequencies on Growth and Incidence of Bitter Pit in‘Qincui’ Apple

Abstract: To investigate the effects of diferent calcium formulations and application frequencies on the occurrence ofbitter pit in‘Qincui’apple,and to explore the relationships between biter pit incidenceand mineral nutrient content,antioxidant enzyme activity,and fruit quality,a field study was conducted using‘Qincui’apples.Treatments included both foliar spraying of calcium and soil applicationof calcium.The incidenceof biter pit was recorded under each treatment,and key mineral nutrient contents,antioxidant enzyme activities,and fruit quality parameters were measured. Correlation analyses were performed between bitter pit incidence and the content and ratios of key mineral nutrients.The results showed that bitter pit incidence was strongly and positively correlated with fruit K content and the ratios of N/Ca,P/Ca,K/Ca,Fe/B,and Zn/B ( p<0.01 ),and strongly and negatively correlated with fruit Ca content and the Ca/Mg ratio (p<0.01 ).Bitter pit incidence was significantly positively correlated with fruit N content and leaf K/Ca, Fe/B ,and Zn/B ratios,and significantly negatively correlated with B content in both leaves and fruits,B/Cu ratio, B/Mn ratio in leaves and flesh, and Ca/Mg ratio in leaves.All calcium treatments reduced the incidence of bittr pit compared with the control. Among them,foliar application of amino acid calcium throughout the growing season was most efective,reducing incidence by 17.03% compared to the control. This treatment also resulted in higher antioxidant enzyme activity,increased Caand Bcontent,and lower Kcontent,suggesting its potential for broader adoption incommercial apple production.
