Introduction to LAO Changhui's Experience in Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment ofUpper Airway Cough Syndrome

Abstract：This article introduces Professor LAO Changhui's clinical experience in treating upper airway cough syndrome.ProfessorLAO Changhui believes thatthe pathogenesis of upper airway cough syndrome is fundamentallya deficiency inorigin with excess in menifestation.The manifest excessisdue to externalpathogens invading through he nasopharynx andaffectingthe lung along the meridians；the fundamental deficiencyoriginates from thefailure of the spleen to nourish the lung，resulting inqideficiency ofthelungandspleen.In the diagnosticand treatment process， emphasisisplacedonthecomprehensiveapplicationof thefourdiagnosticmethods.Itisessentialtofirstcarefuly identifythe characteristics of thecough，thoroughly examine thenasopharyngeal signs，and focus on determining whether the primary cause is allrgic rhinitis，sinusitis，or pharyngitis，while excluding globus hystericus and liver cough to establish a clear diagnosis.Professor LAO Changhui's syndrome diffrentiationand treatment are basedon externaland internal injuries.For external injuries，treatmentfocuses on dispeling windand phlegm，and clearing the throat；for internal injuries，treatment focuses on the lung and spleen，and emphasizesreplenishing qi and consolidating theexterior，whilealso nourishing yin and moisteningdryness，treating each condition acordingly.In diagnosisand treatment，he advocates the integration of traditional Chineseand western medicine，combined with dietary care to enhance the healthy qi，thus achieving significant clinical efficacy.
