XU Liran's Experience in Treating Chronic Gastritis of Intermingled Cold and Heat Type from the Perspective of "Spleen as the Pivotal Mechanism"

Abstract：Professr XU Liran established the theory of "spleenas the pivotal mechanism" summarizing the pathogenesisof chronic gastritisof intermingledcoldand heattype as impaired middleenergizer pivot，spleen deficiencyand stomach excess，and intermingledcoldand heat．Heemphasized thepivotalroleof thespleen in the generation and transformation，normal circulation，and balance of qiand blood．Despite of complex in the pathogenesis，theroot etiology of this condition lies in dysfunctionof middle energizerpivotal mechanismand disharmony between the spleen and stomach．In treatment，emphasis is placed on the holism syndrome diferentiation andtreatment，and regulation of the pivotal mechanism．Thecore therapeutic principleput forward byProfessor XU is "Activating andsmoothing the pivotal mechanism，regulatingand harmonizing the spleen and stomach."He also proposes a gastric disease treatment ruleof "regulating the pivotal mechanism with acrid medicinals to openand biter medicinals to promote descent，and balancing cold-heat byregulating and harmonizing the spleenand stomach". Therefore，he develops theself-formulated Banxia Juzhu Decoction，which showsa significant curative ffct on chronic gastritis with intermingled cold and heat syndrome.
