[Abstract]Objective:Toexplore thewhitemateralterationsandtheirimpactoncognitivefunctioninpatientswithdiferent brainMRIfeatures.Methods:Atotalof24patientswithintracranialtuberculosis(ITB)and26patientswithextracranial multi-organtuberculosis(EMTB),and25healthycontrols(HC)wereretrospectivelycolectedasITB,EMTBandHCroups. Applyingthetract-basedspatialstatistics(TBSS)ofDTI,thediferencesinfractionalanisotropy(FA)andmeandifusivity(MD) wereanalyzedamongthethreegroups.Partialcorelationanalysiswasused,ithageandgenderascovariates,thecorrelations betweenFA,MDvaluesinROIandthecognitivefunctionwereinvestigated.Results:Compared toHCgroup,EMTBgroup exhibitedlocalizedelevationofMDvalue,ITBgroupexhibitedwidespreadFAdecreasesandmoreextensiveMDincreases. ComparedtoEMTBgroup,ITBgroupshowedFAdecreasesandMD increases,with asmalerrangeof diferences between ITBgroupandHC group.There werenosignificantcorrelations betweenFAor MDvaluesandthecognitive function scores (both P>0.05 ).Conclusions:Both ITB and EMTB patients exhibit changes in white matter that may afect cognitive function.EMTB patients may have microstructural lesions in the brain.
