Research on slicing algorithms for additive manufacturing considering mesh topology

Abstract: Traditional slicing algorithms for additive manufacturing is only based on the geometry information of model mesh and its effciency is slow. To improve the slicing algorithm, firstly the vast amounts of triangles are sorted according to their z coordinate to avoid tedious traversal repeatedly. Secondly the geometrical topology of triangles and vertexes are built so that the neighbor triangles possibly intersected with slicing plane can be searched conveniently and quickly. The correct directed line segment is determined due to vertex sequence of triangle and is then connected to each other through starting point vs ending point to form the closed contour polygon of slice. As a result,the present slicing algorithm is more efficient and stable. This algorithm is of great significance in the nuclear power field,as it can enhance the efficiency and quality of nuclear equipment operation and maintenance. Meanwhile, the non-destructive detection digital platform can provide accurate data support for the slicing process,ensuring the reliability of manufacturing process.
