Abstract: The azimuth measurement module of the cover plate driling instrument will produce small cracks after running for hundreds of hours,and accidents of cracking and breaking will occur after running for eight to nine hundred hours; By conducting macroscopic analysis of failed components,microscopic analysis of fracture surfaces,and analysis of physical and chemical properties,the cause of penetration cracks is determined. Finally,finite element analysis is used to optimize the structure of the orientation measurement module to improve its service life. The results indicate that the failure of the azimuth measurement module is caused by a small effective bearing area,no rounded corners at the transition, significant stress concentration,and machining tool marks. Under complex underground loads,fatigue cracks are generated. Cracks originate from the transition between thick and thin walls. By optimizing the design, increasing the bottom corner,and replacing highstrength materials, measures can be taken to improve stress distribution and enhance the safety margin and usability of the directional module.
