Empathetic Communication of Esports Events on Social Media : Generation Logic, Emotional Expression and Implementation Paths

Abstract:The empathetic communication of esports events on social media serves as a crucial mechanism for promoting esports culturecommunication and facilitatingaudience emotional engagement.Using the methods ofcontent analysis and expert interviews,this study grounds onthe theoretical framework of empatheticcommunication to examine the empathetic communication phenomenon observed in the 2023 League of Legends World Championship on Sina Weibo and explore the generation logic,emotional expresion and implementation pathsof empatheticcommunication in esports eventson social media.The findings indicatethat thegeneration logic stems fromtheconvergenceof social mediaand esportsevent attributes.The empatheticsubjectsof esports eventson social mediaexperienceemotional resonanceand express inner sentiments,interpretand articulate their viewpoints with lasting emotional engagement,anddevelopaltruisticemotions that extenditoreal-lifecontexts inthree stagesofemotionalcontagion,perspective-takingand empatheticconcern.Underthe interplayofmultiplefactors,includingtheesports eventdomain,diversifiedempatheticcontent,audiencecharacteristicsand social media characteristics,empathetic communication in esports is realized on social media.
