The Influence of Early-Age Carbonation on the Rebound Method for Testing Concrete Strength

Abstract: [Purposes] To analyze the effect of early-age carbonation on the rebound method for testing concrete strength, three actual underground concrete structural components were selected for strength testing.[Methods] By comparing the rebound compressive strength and the cube compressive strength of concrete specimens with diffrent ages and strength grades,the influence of early-age carbonation on the test results of the rebound method was analyzed.[Findings] The experimental results indicate that earlyage carbonation significantly affects the accuracy of the rebound method,especially within the age range of 7 to 14 days.As the age increases,differences are observed in the early-age strength development of concrete with diffrent strength grades; the strength development of high-strength grade concrete is more rapid in the early ages.[Conclusions] The research results provide a reference for concrete strength testing in practical engineering,especially regarding the influence of early-age carbonation on the rebound method, which helps to improve testing accuracy.
