Capacity Improvement and Balance Optimization of Sleeve Production LineBased on Arena Simulation and Traversal Search Algorithm

Abstract: [Purposes] With the sustained growth of market demand, D Company's sleeve production line is facing thorny issues such as limited capacity and Work-In-Process (WIP)accumulation, it is necessary to optimize and upgrade the sleeve production line.[Methods] This study conducted a comprehensive optimization of the sleeve production line by integrating Arena simulation technology and an exhaustive search algorithm.First,a simulation model of the production line before optimization was built on the Arena software platform,and bottlenecks were identified through analysis of the simulation results. Next,the logistics process was systematically analyzed by breaking it down workstation by workstation, while simultaneously introducing an Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV).Finally,based on the actual requirements of the production line,a mathematical model was established with the objectives of minimizing production time at each workstation and maximizing the production line balance rate.The exhaustive search algorithm was then used to find the optimal operation sequence.[Findings] The results show that after adding one machine each to the Cell and Cell2 units,and by evaluating 542 possible operation sequences,the optimal solution was ultimately determined.The balance rate of the optimized production line increased from 66% to 91% ,an improvement of 38% . The material handling time was reduced from 8 minutes to 4 minutes,andthe productioncycle time was shortened from 5O seconds to 43 seconds,a reduction of 14% .[Conclusions] It can be concluded that the combined use of Arena simulation and the exhaustive search algorithm effctively renovated and optimized the production line,leading to a significant improvement in production efficiency and a notable reduction in costs.This solution can provide a reference for similar upgrades of legacy production lines.
