Experimental Study on Compaction Performance of Site Silty Soil Considering Ramming Pits

Abstract: [Purposes] To simulate the ancient ramming technique of earthen sites,this study investigates the effect of ramming pits on the compaction behavior of site silty soil.[Methods] Addressing the issue of how ramming pits influence the compaction characteristics of silty soil during the restoration of earthen sites,a self-developed air-ramming equipment was used to simulate the formation process of ramming pits.Combined with the orthogonal test method,the effects of three factors-soil moisture content,number of compaction layers,and tamping times perlayer-on the compaction performance of the site silty soil were systematicaly investigated.The range analysis and variance analysis methods were employed to quantitatively evaluate the degree of influence of each factor on the dry density of the compacted soil samples.[Findings]The results show that ramming pits significantly influence the compaction characteristics ofthe siltysoil.The order of significance of the three factorsaffecting drydensityis: moisture content (the core controlling factor) > number of compaction layers > tamping times per layer.[Conclusions] For the rammed restoration construction of earthen sites,the moisture content of the soil material should be precisely controlled as a priority to enhance compactness.The research findings provide a theoretical and experimental basis for the refined control of ramming restoration process parameters.
