Abstract:Researcharticlesabstracts (RAAs)playapivotalroleincondensingresearchfindingsandfacilitingscholarlydiscourse. Basedonaself-compiledcorpusof noviceacademicabstractsfromEnglishlearners,thisstudyadoptedHyland’s(2Ooo)five-move analyticalframeorktonvestigatejorsssinbstractwiiongeseEFlearsepreseedbyertiavelEglish learersfromanorthern Chineseinstitution.Thefindingsrevealedthatwhilemostparticipantsdemonstratedabasicmasteryof theoveralmovestructure,teyexhibitedrecuringproblemsinmovestructueswithtemajorisuesoftheabsenceofobligatorymoves, impropermovesequence,andinformationredundancy.Thestudyalsoidentifieddificultesinlexicalverbswhichrealizedthemove functions,characterdbyinsuficientverbsophstiationandiacuraiesinenseapplicatio.Thesefidingsuderscorepedagogical necessity of integrating genre-specific instruction into academic English curricula.
