An Exploration of the English Translation of“Shen"in the Huangdi Neijing//ZHOU Ziqin，HUI Zhen Abstract：Standardizingthetranslationof traditionalChinesemedicine（TCM）termnologyiscrucialforthedisseminationandpro motionofTCMculture.HuangdiNeijing（hereinafterreferredtoasNejing）containsumerous instancesofpolysemy，particularlyin itsreferecestotheter“Shen”.Theconotationsof“Shen"areextensive，encompasingboth TCM-specificmeanngsandeligious interpretations.WithinTCM，“Shen”canbeunderstoodinbothbroadandnarowsenses.Duetothevarying implicationsof“Shen”，a unifidadstandardzedEnglishtranslationhasytoeestablishdByexploingstrategesfortransating“Shen"intoEngishitis imperativetoconsiderthecontextandtheculturaldiferencesbetweenancientandmoderntimesthroughoutthetranslationproes.
