Status quo and influencing factors of moderate to severe pruritus in patients with maintenance hemodialysis

Abstract Objective: To investigate status quo of moderate to severe pruritus in patients with maintenance hemodialysis, analyze its influencing factors and develop predictive models.Methods:A total of 155 patients with maintenance hemodialysis admitted to The Second Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University were selected as subjects from February 2020 to June 2023.General information and disease ⁃ related information of patients were collected, and pruritus severity of patients was assessed. Results: Among 155 patients with maintenance hemodialysis,42 patients experienced moderate to severe pruritus,with an incidence rate of 27.10% .The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that dry skin,iPTH levels,concurrent anemia, Kt/V ,and serum phosphorus were influencing factors of moderate to severe pruritus in patients with maintenance hemodialysis( ).A Logistic regression model and a decision tree model were developed to predict moderate to severe pruritus.The area under the curve(AUC) of receiver operator characteristic of decision tree model was 0.936 (95%CI0.885–0.969) ,while the AUC of Logistic regression model was 0.901(95%CI 0.842–0.943) .The decision tree model demonstrated a significantly higher AUC than the Logistic regression model ⋅Z=1.979,P=0.049) .Conclusions:Dry skin,iPTH levels,concurrent anemia, Kt/V , and serum phosphorus have effect on moderate to severe pruritus in patients with maintenance hemodialysis. The decision tree model exhibits superior predictive efficacy for moderate to severe pruritus in patients with maintenance hemodialysis.
