Abstract Traditional drive systems for belt conveyors commonly employ thecombination of“asynchronous motor + reducer + (20 hydrauliccoupler,hichersfrosssuchslotrasmssonfiencyigrgsumptiondfreqentce. Toaddress these problems,aretrofit scheme usingadirect-drivethree-phasepermanent magnetsynchronous motor pairedwitha low-voltagefrequencyconverterisproposed.Byanalyzingtheperformanceadvantagesofpermanentmagnetmotorsintermsof structuraleffciencypowerfacto,andlowspeedighoquecaracterisic,andcombiningithpracticalretrofitcaseofabelt conveyorintheblendingplantofacoppersmelter,thispaperelaboratesontheselectioncriteria,instalationprocedures,and frequencyconversioncontrolstrategiesfortepermanentmagetdirect-drivesystem.Practicalresultsshowthataftertheretrofit,te system'trassistldsieltli enhanced,and maintenance workload is decreased,providing areferable technical pathway for energy saving renovations of belt conveyor systems in similar industrial scenarios.
