Employment Concept of Medical Undergraduates and Its Influencing Factors Based on Potential Profile Analysis

Abstract: Objective To further discuss the multidimensional structure of medical undergraduates’employ⁃ ment concept and its underlying influencing mechanism, and explore the potential profiles and influencing fac⁃ tors of medical undergraduates’employment concepts on the basis of potential profile analysis. Methods Medi⁃ cal undergraduates from 5 majors in 6 universities in Hubei Province were selected by cluster convenience sampling. The general information questionnaire and employment concept questionnaire were used to investigate them. Potential profile analysis was applied to explore the classification of medical undergradu⁃ ates’employment concept, and binary logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of differ⁃ ent potential categories. Results A total of 925 valid questionnaires were collected. The employment concept of medical undergraduates can be divided into two potential profiles, including the negative employment view group [56.8% (525/925)]) and the positive employment view group [43.2% (400/925)]). The main factors for choosing a major, the level of university, whether or not they have participated in university students’ career planning competition, the way to learn about employment information, and the main factors to consider in job hunting were the influencing factors of the potential profile classification of medical undergradu⁃ ates’employment concept (all P<0.05 ). Conclusion There are two potential profiles of medical undergradu⁃ ates’employment concept, and colleges and universities can give targeted education strategies according to the characteristics of different groups of students (negative employment outlook group, positive employment outlook group) to improve their employment concept and improve the quality of employment.
