The Interaction of Experience,Cognition,and Language: The Development of Classic Pragmatics Theory Through Embodied-Cognitive Pragmatics

Abstract: Cognitive Pragmatics is a branch of Cognitive Lnguistics,if in line with the revision of
Cognitive Linguistics into Embodied-Cognitive Linguistics,it should include “ Embodied-Cognitive Pragmatics”. Wittgenstein’s later theory made foundational contribution to pragmatics, and Habermas’ Universal Pragmatics has significantly advanced the social function of pragmatics,but many pragmaticians abroad in linguistic circle have neglected their contributions. Embodied-Cognitive Pragmatics proposed by us seeks to fillthis gap.The present paper briefly explains the development of Sperber & Wilson’s Cognitive Pragmatics by this new discipline,with emphasis on sociality and embodiment of cognitive context,and the revision of Gricean Cooperative Principle by EmbodiedCognitive Dialogic Syntax. The recent trends in pragmatics research include three turns:the pragmatic turn in linguistic philosophy,the cognitive turn in pragmatics,and the embodied turn in cognitive pragmatics. These shifts reflect scholars’growing concern of experiential,social and cognitive factors in language use,thus we,based on the kernel principle of Embodied-Cognitive Linguistics “ Reality-Cognition-Language”, have proposed“the Three-layer View” in pragmatics research: language layer, cognition layer,and experience layer,which is of greater explanatory power.This paper also applies this view to analyzing 196 humorous points of seven skits performed by Chen Peisi and Zhu Shimao in CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala,so as to unifiedly explain their pragmatic mechanism by means of the relationship among “ embodiment-language,embodiment-cognition, embodiment-cognition-language".

西方语言学家于20世纪70-80年代借鉴哲学语用学,建构了语言学界的语用学,主要包括以下十几个主要观点和代表(参见王寅,2007:74-86),如Morris(1955)的三分法,Bar-Hillel(1954)的索引词,Austin(1962)的言语行为论,Searle(1969)的间接言语行为,Grice(1975)的会话含意和合作原则,Leech(1983)的礼貌原则,Hom(1972,1984)的荷恩等级关系以及Q-原则、R-原则,Levinson(1987)的新格莱斯会话含意理论,Sperber&Wilson(1986,1995)的关联理论;Thomas(1995)的动态语用学,Verschueren(1999)的顺应论等。(剩余10512字)
