Abstract:Objective The Pharmacognostic identification of Polygonatum cyrtonema and P .kingianumvar.grandifolium cultivatedinvariousbasesinsouthwestChinawascarrdouttoprovideeliabledatafortheacurateidentficationandthefurtherdevelopmentalutilizatioofmedicinalmaterialssourcsoftetwomedicinalmaterialsintefutue.MetodsTetwomedicinalmatealsf PolygonatumfromChinawerestudiedbymeansofmorpholog,macroscopicandmicroscopicidentificationmethods.ResultsInorigin andmacroscopicidentification,thistwoplantsandmedicinalmaterialscouldbedistinguishedfromeachotherbytheirleafsize,fruit shapeandsize,depthofedgeonfruitandotstock;themicroscopicstructureofthetwospecieswasbasicallthesame,andthere weredifereesbetweenthetwospeciesinthecrosssectionofrotsandstems.Singlecalciumoxalatesquarecrystalwasfoundinthe powder of P .kingianum var. grandifolium,but no in P cyrtonema. Conclusion Through the methods of origin,macroscopic and microscopic identification, P .cyrtonema and P .kingianum var. grandifolium can be clearly distinguished.Through the analysis of whethertheyareincludedintheChinesePharmacopoeiaandthelistofthesameoriginofmedicineandfood,somesugestions were provided for the further development of these two kinds of Polygonatum.
