Abstract: This study investigatedthe potential utilizationvalueoffresh leaves fromabandoned tea plantations in the Qiandao Lake areacomparing them with leaves from normal tea plantations. Both plantations were established with the 'Jiukeng tea population' inthe early197Os.One plantation hasbeen abandoned sincethe mid-198Os (approximately 40 years),while the other has been underconsistent conventional management, serving as the control(CK).Fresh shoots with one budand two leaves were harvested fromboth plantations and processed intoLongjing tea samples. The volatile compounds were extracted by simultaneous distilation-extraction (SDE)and analyzed via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Non-volatile components were quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV-Vis). The taste and aroma profiles were evaluated using an electronic tongue and an electronic nose, respectively. The results demonstrate that: (1)the aromatic profiles difered significantly between the two types of tea.The abandoned plantation tea was characterized bya higher abundance of acids, ketones, andheterocycliccompounds, ontributing tobey-ikesweetandroastedaromas.Incontrast,theotrol tea was dominated byesters, yieldingadelicate floraland fruity fragrance.(2)The totalcatechin and aminoacidcontents were significantly higher in the control tea, which was primarilycomposed of esterified catechins andumami-sweetness amino acids. The abandoned plantation tea contained higher levels of simple catechins and flavonoids.(3)Although some functional components were lower, the abandoned plantation tea possessed richer soluble sugars and aqueous extract content. This study revealed distinct flavor profiles between teas from abandoned and conventionally managed plantations, providing a valuable reference for the resource utilization of abandoned tea plantations.
