A Comparative Study of Identity Construction Through Self-mentions in Doctoral Dissertation Abstracts Between Chinese Scholars and Native English-speaking Authors

—Based on Doctoral Abstracts in Foreign Language and Literature from QS Top 1OO Colleges and Universities Wang Qicai （College of Foreign Languages，Qufu Normal University，Qufu 273165）

Abstract：Doctoraldisertationabstractsplayakeyroleinconstructingdisciplinaryknowledgeandacademicidentity.Basedona self-constructedcorpusofdoctralabstractsinForeignLanguagesandLiteraturefromQStop0colegesanduniversities，thissudyuses theframeworksofHylandandFltumetal.tocomparetheuseofself-mentionsandidentyonstructionbetweenChinesescholarsand English-speakingauthors.Theresultsshowthat Chinesescholars preferimplicitreferencestrategies，suchasthird-personproouns，to maintainbjectivityandhumility，whilenativeEnglishauthorsfavorfrst-personpronounstoemphasizeindividualsubjectivityBoth groups emphasize the“researcher” identity，though with significant cross-cultural differences.
