Abstract： Inarcheology，the methodofdetermining ethnic groupsbasedoncultureis notveryreliable.YiYin，askiledchefduring theXia-Shangtrasition，likelycontrbutedtosigfcantdiereesinoterystylesbetwnpreShangandSangperodsSnts of theXiaqiyuan culture were generallyweakandsmallDuringthe XiaandShang dynasties，there werefewmetal weaponsandasmal floatingpopulatioTereforeiterasitimposibleforofederacytodefeatthlitouselements，orasthrealaeough core populationtoquicklyformastablerulinggroupofthesamescaleastheShangcityat Zengzhou.Fromtheaspectsofage，setlent size，politicaldoocoeldpaofstcaltsiolletisglyiblealo wasthecapitalofpre-ShangandearlyShangperiods.FurtherexplorationcanbeconductedonthecapitalsofateandearlyXiaperiods， as wellasthoseof teYelowEmperorShennonandYanEmperor，ChioundSanmiaoThWangjinglousiteinXinzhengmayhave beenthecapitaloflateXia;theXinzhaisiteinXinmiposiblyservedasthecapitaldurigthelateShunandearlyXiaperids；Xinmi's ancientcitysitemighthavebeethecapitalfromtheYellowEmperortothearlyShunperiods；Dengfeng’sWangchenggangsitecould havebeenthecapitalofChiyouandtheSanmiao;theWadiansiteinYuzhoumayhavebenthecapitalofShennongandtheYanEperor. XingfuLakenearHailiVillgeinPouTowChangeCity，locatednearransporationubbetweenWadianandGuchengzaiislikely thesiteof Banquan.Jucishan is probablyLishan.Thethick citywallsof Guchengzhai may have been thereal sourceof“Xirang".
