Abstract：TheCh’unTs’ewwith TheTsoChuen，translatedbyJamesLege，standsasthesolecompleteEnglishrenditionbya foreigntranslatortodate.IthasbenhighlysignificantfortheWesterworldinstudyingtraditionalChineseConfuciancultureInthe prefacetohistranslaionofTheCh’unTs'ewwithTheTsoChuen，JamesLeggedowplaysthevalueofTheCh’unTs’ewdismissngit asmerelyachronicleofevents.BycontrastingitwithhedetailedhistoricalacountsinTheZuoZuan，hearguesthatitrepresentsa “loss of ruth”anda“lossof goodness”.Acordingtothe“FiveCases Theory”bytheChineseConfucianistDuYu，JamesLegge's perceiveddistortonispreciselythemanifestationofthe“praiseorblamewithasingleword”and“punishingevilandencouraginggood”in TheCh’unTs’ew.The“ossofgoodness”thatLeggeperceivesisduetohisunderstandingof“goodness”diferingfromthatofthe traditionalChineseConfucianism.JamesLeggesritiqueofeChunTs'wssentialylesinisnegationofteCofucianideoloical system.Terotsofhisperspectivestemfromtwoaspects：thestarkcontrastbetweenthedeclineof modernChinaandtheascendancyof the West，as well as the conflict between Christian culture and Confucian culture.
