Effects of Water Conditions on the Seedlings Growth and Biomass Allocation of four Pinus koraiensis Provenances

AbstractThis study used four provenances ofone-year-old seedlings of Pinus koraiensis as the research subject.A randomized block design was utilized withthree water gradients-drought (W1,soil water content 13% ), normal (W2,soil water content 26% ),and water addition (W3,soil water content 39% )- to investigate the growth,biomassaccumulation,and allocation patterns of seedlings from different provenances under diferent water treatments.The results showed that,apart from the SS provenance,water significantly enhanced the height growth,ground diameter growth,and total biomass accumulation of Korean pine seedlingsacross different provenances.Notably,under higher soil water conditions,theLSH provenance exhibited the greatest increases in both height and ground diameter,while the LS provenance demonstrated the highest total biomass accumulation.The analysisoftheregression fitrelationship revealed that increased soil moisture significantly promoted the alocation of biomass to theaboveground parts in Korean pine seedlings.
