[Abstract]ObjectiveToinvestigatetheeficacyof escitalopramcombined withelectroencephalographicbiofeedback(EEG BF)inadolescentswithdepressionMethodsAtotalof04adolescentswithdepressionatthefirstepisode wererandomlyas signed in a 1:1 ratio to either study group (escitalopram + EEG-BF) or control group (escitalopram). They were surveyed using the17-item Hamilton DepressionRating Scale(HAMD-17),Hamilton AnxietyRating Scale(HAMA),Chinese BriefCognitive Test (C-BCT),Pitsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI),and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS)before treatment and at theend of 2,4,6,and8 weeksof treatment.The two groups were comparedin terms of depresion score,anxietyscore,sleep score,cognitivefunction,incidenceofadversereactions,andoveral treatmentresponserate.ResultsTherewasasignificant maineffectofgroup,asignificantmainefctof time,andasignificant group-by-timeinteractionefectonHAMD-17,HAMA, and PSQI scores (Fgroup=6.995-21.606,Ftime=150.588-386.874,Finteraction=4.196-11.390,P<0.05) . The simple effect analyses showed that HAMD-17,HAMA,and PSQI scores in both groups were gradually decreased after treatment ( F=51.671- 192.476,P<0.01) . Since the endof the 4th week,the reductions in HAMD-17 score were significantly more pronounced in the study group than in the control group (t=6.084-26.115,P<0.05) . Since the end of the 2nd week,the study group showed significantly greater reductions in HAMA and PSQI scores than the control group (t=4.083-39.749,P<0.05) .By the end of the 8th week,comparedwiththecontrolgroup,thestudygroupexhibitedsignificantlyhigherC-BCTscoresintheinformationprocesing speed and attention dimensions (t=2.866,2.780,P<0.05) .The overall treatment response rate was significantly higher in the study group than in the control group ( χ2=27.094,P<0.01) . No significant differences regarding adverse reaction incidence rates were noted between the two groups ( ΔP>0.05) .ConclusionEscitalopram combined with EEG-BF can significantly improve depresion,anxiety,slpquality,and cognitive function among adolescents with depression,without increasing safetyrisks.
