Water environment monitoring and assessment of Taolinkou reservoir*

Abstract:To understand the water quality status and trophic state of Taolinkou Reservoir,prevent algal blooms and water pollution, and scientifically protect the reservoir's water environment,the Hebei Taolinkou Reservoir Afairs Center conducted water quality monitoring and phytoplankton investigations in July 2025. The water quality was evaluated and analyzed based on the monitoring data,and the current status of algal blooms was assessed using the phytoplankton survey results. The analysis revealed that the reservoir has relatively high levels of total nitrogen and total phosphorus, with a mesotrophic state. The survey identified 82 species of phytoplankton belonging to 57 genera and 7 phyla,with an algal bloom level of Grade I,indicating no algal bloom occurrence. Based on the preliminary water quality monitoring and plankton survey findings,and considering the actual conditions of the reservoir,the project team proposed exploratory suggestions for algal bloom prevention and control. The aim is to provide technical references for establishing a more comprehensive algal bloom prevention and control system for the reservoir and to contribute positively to ensuring the safety of drinking water from the Qinhuangdao water source.
