Research Progress on the Utilization of Industrial Solid Waste Red Mud inBuildingMaterials

Abstract: [Purposes] This article aims to summarizeand analyze the latest research progress in the resource utilization of red mud in building materials,promote the technological research and industrial application of large-scale,resource-effcient,and environmentally safe red mud utilization,and provide strong support for thegreen and sustainable development of the comprehensivered mud recycling industry.[Methods] This article summarizes the research progresson red mud utilization in the field of building materials,focusing on its application in cement,concrete,and block production.[Findings]Red mud,due to its composition similar to Portland cement clinker,can be used to produce various types of cement.Leveraging its inherent properties,it can be used to manufacture ultra-high performance,lightweight, permeable,and geopolymer concrete.Additionally,It can beutilized in producing variousbuilding materialssuchasasphalt mixtures，sintered bricks,and road base materials.However,the resource utilization of red mud still faces challenges,including high pretreatment costs and significant regional variations in its properties.[Conclusions] In the future,efforts should focus on the co-processing of multiple solid wastes ,optimizing pretreatment processes,and advancing the industrial development of red mud resource utilization.
