Abstract: Diesel engine turbochargers operate at speeds up to tens of thousands of revolutions per minute, making them components prone to failure.This study addresses the problem of crack initiation and fracture in a marine diesel engine's turbocharger.A comprehensive fault investigation was conducted,incorporating material analysis data from athird-partyagency.Theresults indicate thatthe failure was atributed to aslightly elevated casting temperature, which ledto localized coarse grain structure inthe turbine blades,therebyreducing their fatigue resistance.The rootcauses of the excessive temperature were further analyzed.The conclusions and insights derived from this study can provide a valuable reference for resolving similar engineering issues.
