Installation Technology of Retrofitting Folding Rotor Sails on a Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC)

Abstract: Wind-assisted ship propulsion technology, which utilizes wind energy to save energy and reduce emissions,has seen increasing application in recent years.This paper takes the retrofiting project of installing folding rotor sails on a Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC)as a case study.It introduces the instalation process of the rotorsails,including keytechnical aspectssuchassail hoisting,base welding,and instalationoffolding hydraulic cylinders,as well as the modification schemes for the supporting hydraulic and electrical systems.Practical experience accumulated during the construction processis summarized, which can provide references for similar ship retrofitting projects.
