Lonely Singing in Bustling City ： Comment on Wang Anyi's Novel Planting Red Water Chestnuts and Lotus Roots

Abstract：Wang Anyi's novel Planting Red Water Chestnuts and Lotus Roots takes the growth experiences of young girls such as Xia Jingying and Jiang Ya'er as clues，and depictsa vividand richlife sceneinasmalltownin Jiangnan withdelicate and gentle strokes.It presents thechanges in southern Chinese vilages and towns in the tideof market economyand urbanization process，conveying the novelist'saesthetic understanding of individuallife lonelinessand socialand cultural changes.The novel depictsa spectrum oflonelycharacters，conveying the themeoflonelylife.Ithas narativecharacteristicsi terms of scenery description，polyphonic discourse，and children’s perspective，and hasunique aesthetic significance in Wang Anyi's novel creation spectrum.
