Construction of Paths for Contemporary Research and Creation of Dance Postures in Murals of Dunhuang Yulin Grottoes

Abstract:The dance postures depicted in the murals of Yulin Grotoes in Dunhuang preserveawealthof dance-related content from the Tang Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty，providingadistinctiveand typical sample for contemporary research and creation，which is diferent from thatof Mogao Grotoes.Currently，academic research and creation on the dance postures in the murals mostly focus on typical dance postures，while thereis litle explorationof the interactive relationship betwee ancient image historical materials and contemporary artistic practice，as wellas the integrated thinkingof historical images，artistic image creationand digital humanities.From the perspectiveofcontemporaryresearch and creation，this paper clasifies the dance postures in the murals of Yulin Grotoes into two categories:"dance posture images" and"dance figures".Based on the theory of image historiography，it constructs four dynamic transformation paths， namely，image parallelism within the same figure，figure comparison under the mutual verification of images and texts, correspondencebetween images among diferentfigures，and cross-verificationofsimilarfigures indiferentregions.Furthermore，the paperexplores the aplication potentialof thesepaths inthedigitalarchiveandhuman-computercollaborativecreation model，soas to promote the creative transformationand inovative developmentof the dance postures in Dunhuang murals.
