Abstract：Focusingonthedailylifeandsorrows ofordinary peoplein Gansu，He Yanhua’snoveldepicts theuniquelandscape and humanconditionsof Northwest China，and reveals the cultural psychologyand realistic dilemmasbehind them， thus constructing a new typeof borderland realist narative.The novel explores severalimportant isues，such as what is a borderland，urban-rural diferences，and the fate of women，and presents atrue pictureof contemporary life in the northwest of China in a sincere writing style.
