Performance Evaluation of PE Vegetable Oil Composite Modified Asphalt

Abstract:Inordertoexplorethefeasibilityoftheapplicationofpolyethylene(PE)andvegetableoilcompositemodifiedasphalt, theperformanceofPEvegetableoilcompositemodifiedasphalt wascomprehensivelyevaluatedbypenetration,ductility,softning point,Brinellrotationalviscosity,penetrationindex test,short-termageing testandThermogravimetricanalysisaalysistest. The results show that PE canreduce the penetration and ductility of the matrix asphalt,and improve the softening point and viscosity;Afteraddingvegetableoil,astheamountofvegetableoilincreases,tepenetrationandductilityofthecomposite modifiedasphaltgraduallyincrease,whilethesofteningpointandviscosityshowadecreasing trend.PEcanimprovethe temperature sensitivity of asphalt,but when the content of vegetable oil reaches 7% ,the PI value shows that its temperature sensitivityis worsethanthatofbaseasphalt.PEcanimprovethethermal oxygen ageingandthermaldecompositionpropertiesof asphalt,andanappropriate amount of vegetableoilcan further enhancetheoxygen agingresistanceof asphalt,withanoptimal dosage of 3% .Astheamountof vegetableoil increases,the thermaldecomposition characteristicsof asphalt graduallydeteriorate.
