Optimization and evaluation of acid digestion system for determination of Pb content in soil

AbstractTo selecta suitable pretreatment method for the rapid,efficient,andaccurate determinationoflead (Pb) content in soil, this study employed 3 digestion systems:nitric acid + hydrofluoric acid + hydrogen peroxide (method 1), nitric acid + hydrochloric acid + hydrofluoric acid (method 2),and nitric acid + hydrofluoric acid (method 3) for the pretreatmentof 4 soil standard samples (GSS-9,GSS-12,GSS-13,GSS-20).The Pbcontent inthesoil was determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS),and the digestion eficiencyand precision of the different methods were evaluated.Theresults showed that Method1 had the best digestion efect,producinga colorless andtransparent digestate without residue.ThePb content in thesoil standard samples determined bymethod1 fell within the standard reference ranges,with relative errors between 1.34% and 6.68% ,indicating high accuracy,and relative standard deviations (RSD) between 3.82% and 7.35% , demonstrating good precision. In contrast, the Pb content determined by method 2 for 3 soil standard samples(GSS-9、GSS-12、GSS-13)fell outside the standard reference ranges,andallresults from method3were outside the standard reference ranges.Inconclusion,the nitric acid + (204号 hydrofluoric acid + hydrogen peroxide digestion system (method 1) combined with ICP-MS offers high accuracy,good precision, and strong operability,meeting the analytical requirements for Pb determination in soil.
