A Study on the Reception of Conceptual Metaphor Translation from Chinese to Japanese from the Perspective of Relevance Translation Theory

Abstract:Fromtheperspectiveof Relevance Translation Theorythis studyanalyzes conceptual metaphors related to Deepen ReformComprehensivelyexamining theacceptabityofdirecttranslations intoJapaneseandthereasons.Troughquestionairesurveysandinterviews,theresultsevealtatthediecttranslationofmetaphoricalvehiclesisgenerallywellreeivedbytheraders. Specificallyreadersoftetranslatedtextcancorrectlynderstandteseconceptualmetaphorswithrelativelylowogitiveffort. However,forsomeconceptualmetaphors,duetothestrongsemanticinfluenceoftesourcedomain,tediversityofsourcedoain meanings,theauracyrateintextcomprehensionislower.Evenwithsignificantcognitivefort,ommunicationisnotachieved.To achieveoptimalrelevance,whentranslatingconceptualmetaphorsthataredificultforreaderstomaptothetargetdomain,moreexplicit translation methods may be considered.
