A Study on the Representation of Literary Space in The Road to Seonpo

Abstract: Hwang Sok-yong's TheRoad to Seonpoemploysthe spatial motifsof "home"and "road"to explorethespiritual plight andexistentialsignificanceofindividualsundertheimpactof modernity."Seonpo"symbolizesanidealizedprototypeof"ome,"embodyigtraditionalmemoryanddentityMeanwhile,thedilapidated"abandonedhome"istransformedintoapoeticdwelingthatresistsexistentialilismthoughtheprotagonstsagencyandotioalcotios.Tsuperficiallopositioal"adtsthe dilemmaofsubjectiveexistenceamidtheinterweavingoftraditionalcultureandmoderncivilization.Therelationshipbetween"home" and"road"isnotasimplebinaryoppositionbutratheradialecticalsublation—thesis,antithesis,andsynthesisunder Hegeliandialectics.

20世纪80年代以来，韩国的城市化进程不断推进，然而城市化不仅意味着城市规模的扩大和人口数量的增加，更意味着城乡关系的变化，与城市化相伴的是底层文学的涌现和发展，《去森浦的路》以刚出狱的郑氏、身为农民工的英达，以及以肉体交易谋生的百花为主人公，详述他们各自踏上归乡之路时，在路上偶遇并给予彼此人性关怀与温暖，是一部现实主义小说，但同时也是一部将物理空间一—道路转化为心理空间，映射人物自我探索与价值追问隐喻的公路小说(roadnovel)[]，因此，其中呈现出的空间意蕴与多重空间形态，使得从空间理论关照这部作品成为可能。（剩余6569字）
