Knowledge Glocalization of “ Community”in the Light of Transknowletology

Abstract： The English word “community”，which originated from the German word “Gemeinschaft”， appears frequently in Chinese newspapers. Based on Modern Chinese Newspapers Full-Text Database，this article employs the concept of“knowledge glocalization” from Transknowletology to explore the knowledge interaction，generation，and development that the term “community” has gone through since its translation into Chinese. It is found that，on the one hand， Chinese translation of “community”is the outcome of the repeated interaction between Chinese local knowledge and global knowledge，which from“基本社会”（jibenshehui）to“地方社会”（difangshehui）or“社区” （shequ）indicating geographical division，then to online“社区”（shequ）free from geographical restriction，and then to“共同体”（gongtongti） in“a community of shared future for mankind”. On the other had， it demonstrates the self-renewal in Chinese knowledge system，evolving from“社区” （shequ）composed of human beings to“社群"（shequn） of organisms，and from traditional“乡村社 区”（rural communities）to modern“都市社区”（urban communities）. It shows how the continuous interaction between local knowledge and global knowledge，along with the self-renewal and transmission within the knowledge system of the target language， jointly drive evolution of vocabulary translation and the knowledge enrichment.
