环境话语的批评认知语言学分析

Critical Cognitive Analysis of Environmental Discourse：
A Case Study of the U. S. Withdrawal and Re-entry into the Paris Climate Accord

Abstract： Environmental discourse represents the linguistic manifestation of the collction of environmental phenomena and concepts. Unlike conflictual discourses such as political discourse， the construal of ODC is considerably more complex. From the perspective of Critical Cognitive Linguistics，this study employs Proximization Theory（PT） as framework to analyse discourse. It is based on two small corpora of environmental discourse from republican-controlled government and democratic-controled government of the United States before and after the re-entry into the Paris Accord.The analysis focuses on probing the differentiated proximization strategies and mechanism for legitimizing the atitudes and ideologies of the diferentiated strategies of Trump and Biden administrations. This study attempts to improve the quantitative analysis method of PT in environmental discourse，and to examine whether PT is applicable to reveal the legitimation strategies of environmental discourse. The quantitative-qualitative analysis of the data shows that there are notable diferences in the use of spatial， temporal，and axiological strategies between the two administrations. In terms of spatial proximization strategies， the types of lexical-grammatical constructions employed by both administrations are remarkably diferent in positioning IDC and ODC camp，as wellas in positioning the contrastive values in terms of axiological proximization strategies. These diferences reflect Trump administration stressing prioritization of economic interests and Biden administration emphasizing a balanced consideration of economic and environmental concerns.The results support the explanatory power of PT for environmental discourse，while enriching the environmental corpus of PT research.
