Abstract: This article presents an interview with Dr. Brian North, a renowned international expert in language education. Dr. North is the co-author of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and its companion volume (CEFR CV). In this interview, Dr. North offrs an in-depth analysis of the background and development of the CEFR and its revision, elaborates on the integration of relevant interdisciplinary theories within the framework,and concludes with constructive suggestions for its practical application in foreign language education in the Chinese context.
