Role of the House-Tree-Person drawing test inassessing middle school-aged children's social anxiety

【Abstract】ObjectiveTo explore the currnt status of social anxiety inmiddle school-aged children and thecharacteristics presented in the House-Tre-Person drawing test.Methods The Children's Social Anxiety Scaleand the House-Tree-Person drawing test were used to investigate 194 primaryschoolchildren.ResultsThe detection rate of social anxiety in middle school-aged children was 45.88% ,and the average score of social anxiety was 7.68.Thesocial anxiety scores of the third grade were significantly higher than those of the fourth grade (t=2.85,P=O.o1).The detection rate of social anxiety among the only child ( χ2=6.910 ,P=0.03)and social anxiety scores t= 2.96, P<0.01 )were significantly higher for theonly child than for non-onlychild.There were 1O drawing characteristicsinthechi-square test thatdifferedsignificantlyin frequencyofoccurrence between thenegativeand positive groups.Twodrawing characteristics entered thelogisticregresion prediction equation,includingatilted house (OR=0.890,P=0.04) and heavy roofline ( OR=1.001 , P=0.01 ).Conclusion House-Tree-Person drawing test caneffectively predict children'ssocialanxietyandcan beused as avalid supplement to the Social Anxiety Scale.
