Effects of psychological capital on college students' learning engagement

【Abstract】 Objective To improve the learning performance of college students and explore the mechanism of psychological factors oncollege students'their learning outcomes.MethodsBased onthe theories of psychologicalcapital,self-determination,andsocial cognition,ananalytical framework wasdesigned.Using a mixedresearch method,an investigation wasconductedontherelationship betweencollege students'psychological capitaland learning engagement.ResultsThrough Pearson correlationanalysis,it was found thatcollege students' psychologicalcapitalsignificantlyaffectedtheirleveloflearning engagement.Collge students'psychologicalcapital positively correlated with learning engagement (r=0.751, P<0.05 ).Using structural equation modeling analysis, the model of psychological capital affecting learning engagement had a good fit (with the χ2/ν of 2.241,RMSEA of 0.044,and the test resultsof IFI,TLI,and CFI all above O.9).The impact of each element of psychological capital on learning engagement was not balanced (with β values from -0.039 to 0.424).Using qualitative methods such as interviewsand text analysis,we continued to explore in depthand summarized four mechanisms through which psychological capital affcted learning engagement.ConclusionBased on the conclusions of the mixed research,fourstrategies forcultivating psychologicalcapital incollege studentsareproposed,including integrating psychologicalcapitalcultivationintoschool talenttrainingprograms,providingpersonalizedpsychologicalcounseling basedon learning engagement,guidingcollege students to improve theircareer planningability,and constructinga campus environment supported bymultiple subjects.
