Mechanisms and Paths of Transforming Urban Industrial Heritage into Sports Space

Abstract：Transforming urban industrial heritage into sportsspace is an energysavingand efficient way for space development and utilization.Thisstudyuses the methods of literaturereview，participatoryobservation，in-depth interviews andcase study and takes Beijing Shougang Park as the main case.By expanding Lefebvre's theory of space production to theintersectionof industrialheritageandsports，itaims toexplorethemechanismsandpathsoftransformingurban industrial heritage into sports space.It shows thatthe mechanisms of transforming urban industrial heritage into sports space include reconstructing the basic space cariersby physical reforming，expanding thespace symbolic meanings bycultural integration，anddriving the practice of spatial activities bycomplexsocial demands.Three transforming pathsare established，whichinvolveoptimizingspatialarrngementdrivenbypolicies，capitalandocial demands，creatingcultural landmarks bydual experiencesof idustryand sports and media disemination，as wellas innovatingcooperationnetworks and models guided by sports consumption.
